OCTOBER 2026 • MAJOR INDUSTRY CHANGE

MHHS 2026 Explained for UK Businesses

What it means for your business energy bills and how you can save.

What is MHHS?

Market-Wide Half-Hourly Settlement (MHHS) is one of the biggest changes to the UK electricity market in decades. From October 2026, all business (and eventually domestic) electricity customers will be settled on actual half-hourly usage data rather than estimated profiles.

In simple terms: you will be charged for when you use electricity, not just how much you use.

Why does it matter for your business?

Time-of-use pricing becomes the norm — Peak periods (typically 4pm–7pm) will be significantly more expensive. Off-peak and shoulder periods will be cheaper.
Real savings opportunity — Businesses that can shift flexible loads (EV charging, manufacturing, refrigeration, heating, data processing) to cheaper times could see major reductions in their unit rates.
Smart meters and data visibility — Half-hourly data will become standard. You will need accurate, granular usage information to make informed decisions.

How Energy Team can help you prepare

We are already working with clients to get ready for the MHHS transition. We can:

  • Review your current tariff structure and identify exposure to peak pricing
  • Help you understand your half-hourly consumption profile (if you have a smart meter or HH data)
  • Source contracts that reward flexible usage or include MHHS-ready pricing
  • Advise on demand-side response opportunities and potential revenue streams
  • Support with smart meter rollout coordination where needed

Don’t wait until 2026.

Businesses that act early will be best positioned to benefit from the new settlement arrangements. Contact us for a no-obligation review of your current energy position and MHHS readiness.
